Home › Retreats › Teen Anxiety Relief Retreat in Baja California: Surf, Yoga & Therapy
California · 5 days · From EUR 13800
The retreat runs for five days at East Cape Beach, a calm and relatively undeveloped stretch of coastline in Baja California Sur. Teens stay at Casa Kura Kura, a wellness property with casita-style accommodation. A dedicated guide is with the teen throughout the entire retreat — facilitating sessions, coordinating the various practitioners and providing consistent one-to-one support. That continuity matters: rather than being passed between different therapists, the teen has one person who holds the thread of the week.
Surfing is the anchor activity. The East Cape has gentle, manageable waves that suit beginners, and the sessions are structured to build water confidence gradually. The therapeutic angle is built in: waiting for a set, paddling out, wiping out and trying again all become ways to practise staying present and tolerating discomfort. Alongside surfing, the program includes yoga, breathwork and mindfulness sessions that focus on regulating the nervous system — the kind of physical, down-to-earth techniques that work for anxious teens better than being told to relax.
The practitioner team is multidisciplinary and assembled around the individual. Depending on the teen's needs, it may include a psychologist, a somatic or energy healer, a sound and crystal therapist, a nutritionist and movement instructors. Somatic work, for example, might focus on where anxiety shows up in the body; sound therapy might be used to help downshift after a stimulating day. The nutritionist's guidance feeds into the meals served during the stay. Nothing is fixed in advance — families discuss what they want from the week, and the schedule is built from there.
Optional activities are added based on interest. Hiking in the surrounding desert and coastal hills, snorkelling in the Sea of Cortez, cooking classes and confidence-building photo sessions are all available. The photo sessions are a small but telling detail: for a teenager who avoids being seen, having portraits taken in a place they feel good in can be its own kind of work.
Accommodation is in the Flatback Casita at Casa Kura Kura Wellness Oasis, one of the property's standalone units. It's a quiet, nature-surrounded setting — the kind of place where the environment itself does some of the regulating. Meals are prepared on site with an emphasis on fresh, vibrant food that supports mood and energy rather than just filling a plate. The whole program is private, meaning the teen isn't sharing the experience with a group of strangers, which for many anxious teenagers is the difference between engaging and shutting down.
What sets this apart from a standard teen therapy program or a surf camp is the combination: a private, customized clinical and holistic framework delivered in a setting that feels like a holiday rather than a clinic. The teen gets professional support and real coping tools, but they also get to surf, eat well and be somewhere beautiful — which is often what makes the rest of it land.
