Transylvania Mountain Wellness Retreat Near Dracula's Castle

Akasha Retreat is based in Peștera, a village in the Carpathian mountains of Transylvania, inside the Piatra Craiului National Park area. The property sits above 1,000 metres, with views of limestone peaks and forested valleys. Bran Castle — usually called Dracula's Castle — is about a 15-minute drive away. Brașov is the nearest city and the usual arrival point.

The retreat has 11 individually designed rooms, all refurbished with interiors that take their cues from the surrounding landscape. Residents have access to an indoor yoga studio, home workout gym equipment, a sauna, a jacuzzi, and massage therapies on site. There is a restaurant and communal dining space, and a separate sister property, Villa Alba, about 1km from Bran Castle, with 6 rooms for private or group bookings.

A typical day starts with yoga, often at sunrise in the studio or outside when the weather allows. Breakfast is served after. Mids mornings and afternoons are free for hiking in the national park, driving to Bran Castle, or staying put in the sauna and jacuzzi. Lunch and dinner are cooked on site, with ingredients pulled from local farms — the kitchen has won a Sustainable Tourism Global Vegan Award for its communal dining, so vegan and plant-based dishes are treated as a first-class option rather than an afterthought. Evenings are quiet: mountain air, early nights, no bar scene.

The team also runs the property as an events venue for corporate retreats, team buildings, yoga retreats, microweddings and family gatherings, with in-house coordinators, planners and chefs. That means the setup can flex: a booked group gets a structured programme, while individual guests mostly set their own rhythm.

The retreat has picked up a set of awards in a short time — Romania's Best Wellness Retreat 2024 from the World Spa Awards, Destinatia Anului 2024 (Wellness), Best Sustainable Accommodation Romania 2023 at the GrINN Awards, and Most Relaxing Wellness Retreat 2025 – Romania at the Leaders in Luxury awards.
