Tuscan Healing Spa Escape at a 13th-Century Estate

Chiusdino · 1 days

The Seed to Skin spa sits within the Borgo Santo Pietro estate in Chiusdino, in the province of Siena. The building has been a place for curative therapies since medieval times, and the current spa works from that same starting point. The tea you're offered on arrival is infused daily from mint, melissa or lemon thyme grown in the garden just outside the spa doors, and the oils and skincare used in treatments come from the estate's own Seed to Skin line, made with organic ingredients and the signature flowers of the property — lavender, neroli, rose and jasmine.

The treatment menu covers Ayurvedic massage, bespoke facials, relaxing bodywork and classic beauty treatments. You can pick from the spa menu or have something tailored to what you actually need; therapists are selected for their training in natural skincare as much as their hands. There's no fixed group schedule, so your days are built around whatever you've booked.

The treatment rooms are private, each with its own shower and toilet and a heated therapy table, kept at a controlled temperature with music. If you'd rather not be indoors, there are curtained therapy beds in the spa gardens. Afterwards the spa garden has large curtained Moroccan beds, plus several lounge areas, a terrace and fountains — guests are free to stay as long as they like. Beyond the spa, the estate has extensive Tuscan gardens and the wider hotel to explore, with Siena, San Gimignano, San Galgano and Florence all within day-trip reach.

What separates this from another five-star spa is the sourcing. The herbs in your tea and a good part of the raw ingredients in your treatment are grown on the property, and the skincare line used throughout was developed from the estate's own botanical gardens rather than bought in. The villa itself is a 13th-century building with a long history as a place of healing, and the hotel has held five stars and won awards for its restoration.

It's a hotel spa, not a retreat with a set programme. Guests come for honeymoons, weddings and celebrations as much as for the treatments, and the pace reflects that — there is no 6 a.m. class and no group to keep up with. Expect to move between the spa, the gardens and the terrace, book treatments as you want them, and treat the surrounding Tuscan countryside as the rest of the itinerary.
