Twice-Daily Yoga and a Normandy Village Week

Normandy · 7 days

The setting is a medieval mansion in Normandy that started life as a small hub of fishermen and farmers. It has since been modernised with an eco-friendly approach while keeping its historical character, and the hospitality is a large part of why people come back. Rooms are individually decorated, and the bedding is top-tier and French-made — the centre treats good sleep as part of the programme, not an afterthought.

Tara leads two classes a day. Each session is put together to include philosophy talks, chanting, meditation, purposeful active movement and deeply restful Restorative Yoga, so the week moves between effort and recovery rather than hammering one note. The classes are described as expertly crafted and are the backbone of the schedule.

The schedule is spacious on purpose. Afternoons are free for a massage, a book in the sun, or talking to the other guests without watching the clock. One evening is given over to a wine tasting celebrating France's wine heritage, with food and company to match.

One full day is a trip out. You visit Veules-les-Roses, one of the most picturesque villages in France, and learn the history of its 19th-century villas, cottages and watermills. There is a stroll through the artisans market and a French picnic in the countryside. The day finishes at the site where Claude Monet came to paint the changing light of the Alabaster Coast — a panorama from the cliffs, then a descent down the Gorge des Moutiers towards the sea.

Meals are made from locally sourced ingredients and served at the manor. Between the twice-daily practice, the manor itself and the day in Veules-les-Roses, the week is a mix of structured yoga and genuine time off, in a part of Normandy with a lot of coastline and history within reach.
