Home › Retreats › Wellness Escape: 22-Day Yoga Teacher Training on Koggala Lake, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka · 22 days · From USD 3200
The training runs six days a week, Monday to Saturday, with Sundays off. Each day starts with meditation and pranayama at 7:00 AM, followed by a 90-minute asana practice. After breakfast, you'll have a lecture or workshop, then an asana lab at 11:30 AM. After lunch, lectures resume at 3:00 PM, and you'll practice teaching at 4:30 PM. Dinner is at 6:30 PM, and the evenings are yours.
The curriculum covers asana, alignment, and movement, drawing on Iyengar, Yoga Synergy, and modern movement science. You'll learn anatomy from a teaching perspective, focusing on how the body actually moves. Class design is taught using a block method: theme, peak pose, and improvable blocks. There's also a direct look at injury prevention, which is often glossed over elsewhere.
What makes this different from other 200-hour trainings is the depth of the teaching method. The Yoga Synergy approach, developed by Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss in Sydney, is anatomy-led and built on how the body actually moves, rather than a single lineage's set sequence. You'll leave able to design your own classes, not just teach someone else's.
There's also an emphasis on the business side of yoga, which most trainings skip. Stefan covers branding, social media, working with studios, and the actual numbers behind making a living teaching yoga. You'll graduate with a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 certificate and real teaching experience from week one.
The location itself is a big part of the experience. The venue is surrounded by a vegetable garden and fruit forest that supply most of the food, and there's an infinity pool over the lake with eagles, monitor lizards, and kingfishers as regular company. It's a working training centre, not a resort, which keeps the focus on learning.
