Home › Retreats › Wellness Escape in Canggu with Unlimited Yoga and Volcano Hiking
Indonesia · 3 days · From USD 74
Serenity Eco Guesthouse is a family-run spot in Canggu, started in 1999 by Daniel Chieppa, originally from France, and his Balinese wife, Yatna. Over the years they've turned it into a proper eco-resort: a smoke- and alcohol-free zone made from reusable materials, surrounded by gardens and a permaculture plot, with composting and a grey-water waste system. It regularly shows up in guides like The Guardian and Honeycombers, and it won a Booking.com Traveller Award in 2023 and 2024.
Your days here are mostly self-directed. The retreat package gives you a two-day unlimited yoga pass, which means you can drop into any of the ten-plus daily classes on the schedule. The teaching team is large and varied—Diaz blends vinyasa with Budokon and qigong, Edi focuses on alignment in hatha and yin yang, and there's sound healing, restorative, and aero-yin on offer too. Beginner to advanced are all welcome, and the classes are small enough that you get real attention.
The main event is the Mount Batur hike, which happens on day two. You'll be picked up around 00:30 am, collect a sapling at reception, and drive to the starting point. After planting your tree, you climb through the dark with a guide, reaching the summit in time for sunrise—usually between 5:45 and 6:30 am depending on the season. After taking in the view over the volcano and the lake below, you'll head to a natural kitchen for a cooked breakfast before descending. There's an option to visit a hot spring or the lake on the way back (entrance tickets extra).
You'll also get a one-hour Balinese massage at the in-house Yogi Spa, which is deeply relaxing after 48 hours of yoga and hiking. The rest of the time is yours: swim in the pool, use the coworking space, take a permaculture tour, or walk the 150 meters to the beach at Nelayan Street. Canggu is full of healthy cafes and surf spots, so it's easy to fill your free hours. This is a short, sweet retreat that gives you a taste of adventure, plenty of yoga, and a real sense of the eco-conscious community that runs the place.
