Home › Retreats › Wellness Escape with Yoga and Hiking in Ubud, Bali
Indonesia · 6 days · From EUR 1150
The retreat base is a small villa property about ten minutes' drive from Ubud centre, set back from the main road among rice fields. Guests sleep on site in private or shared rooms, eat most meals at the villa, and practise yoga on an open-air shala that looks out over the paddies. It's a working farm setting rather than a resort — expect roosters, frogs at night and the occasional offering ceremony drifting over from a neighbouring compound.
Mornings follow a fixed rhythm: 7am yoga for around 90 minutes, then breakfast at 9. The classes mix hatha and vinyasa, with props available and plenty of hands-on adjustment. The teacher has been running retreats in Bali for roughly a decade and teaches in English. After breakfast the middle of the day is unscheduled — many guests walk into Ubud for the market, the Monkey Forest or a coffee, or stay put and swim.
Afternoons are for the outdoor side of the programme. Depending on the day, that's a rice-terrace walk at Tegallalang, a visit to Tirta Empul water temple, a longer jungle trek, or the pre-dawn Mount Batur climb (you'll be woken around 2am for that one and driven to the trailhead). Hikes are graded by difficulty and the group stays together at the pace of the slowest walker.
Evenings are low-key. Dinner is served at the villa around 7pm, usually Indonesian dishes — nasi campur, gado-gado, grilled fish, tempeh — with vegetarian and vegan versions as standard. There's no bar on site and most people are in bed by 10 after a Batur morning. One evening midweek is left free so you can eat in town.
What separates this from the dozens of other Ubud yoga weeks is the hiking component and the size of the group. You get a proper guide for the Batur ascent, transport to and from every trailhead, and a teacher who'll adjust the morning class if the group is tired from a long walk the day before. It's a walking-and-yoga week rather than a yoga week with a optional stroll attached.
