Home › Retreats › Wellness Hiking Retreat to Machu Picchu via the Ancasocha Trail
Peru · 4 days · From USD 845
The trek starts in Cusco and winds through the Sacred Valley, past turquoise lagoons, snow-capped peaks, and cloud forests. Along the way, you'll meet indigenous families who have lived in these remote valleys for centuries, and you'll learn about the Andean Cosmovision directly from people who were born here. The journey culminates with a ceremony at Ancascocha Lagoon, followed by a train ride to Aguas Calientes and an early morning visit to Machu Picchu.
Your guide, Alfredo Huari, was born in the tiny indigenous community of Chillipahua and grew up helping his father, a mule driver, on the trails. He studied tourism in Cusco and now leads treks that emphasize genuine cultural exchange and connection to the land. He's known for his patience, his deep knowledge of Inca history, and his commitment to sustainable, community-based tourism.
This is a small-group trek, and you'll be accompanied by mule drivers who carry the gear and prepare meals along the way. The food is cooked fresh each day, using ingredients from Alfredo's family farm. Meals are hearty and designed to fuel you for the hiking, with plenty of options to accommodate dietary restrictions.
You'll spend two nights camping at beautiful highland sites with full camping gear provided. On the final night, you'll stay in a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy a hot shower and prepare for your Machu Picchu visit. The retreat includes all meals from lunch on day one through lunch on day four, as well as transportation, guided excursions, and professional photos.
