Home › Retreats › Wild Atlantic Way Wellness Retreat: Reconnect with Nature on Ireland's Skellig Coast
Ireland · 6 days · From EUR 1200
The retreat is located on a working family farm in Ballinskelligs, County Kerry, on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. The property covers nearly 200 acres of farmland, mountains, and ancient coastline, with views out to Skellig Michael. The O'Shea family has lived here for generations — records go back to 1766 — and the retreat is an extension of that history rather than a purpose-built resort.
Accommodation is in the main retreat house or in separate cottages on the land. Rooms are comfortable and simple, with views of the sea or the mountains. There's a communal kitchen and dining area where meals are served, and several sitting rooms with open fires. The atmosphere is quiet and unpretentious — this is not a luxury spa, but a well-loved family home that happens to sit on one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in Ireland.
Days here have no fixed schedule. Breakfast is laid out in the morning, and you're free to join whatever is happening or do your own thing. There might be a guided walk along the cliffs, a trip to a local beach, or a session in the sauna. In the evenings, dinner is cooked using produce from the farm and local suppliers. After that, people tend to gather in the sitting room or go to bed early. The retreat is designed to let you switch off — there's no pressure to socialise or to be productive.
The location is a big part of what makes this place different. The farm sits on the edge of the Atlantic, and the coastline is wild and unspoiled. You can walk for hours without seeing another person. The Skellig Islands are visible from the shore, and boat trips can be arranged in season. The surrounding area is rich in archaeology and history, from early Christian settlements to old fishing villages.
This is a retreat for people who want to spend time in nature, eat well, and slow down. It's not a fitness bootcamp or a yoga intensive — there are no scheduled classes as such, though yoga and meditation can be arranged on request. The focus is on rest, fresh air, and good company. The family who runs it will chat with you if you want, but they'll also leave you alone if you prefer.
Because the weather in Kerry changes quickly, plans are made day by day. If it rains, there's a backup plan — maybe a trip to a local craft centre or a longer lunch. If it's sunny, you might head to the beach or up the mountain. The retreat is set up to be flexible, so you get the most out of whatever the day brings.
