Lake Balaton · 7 days
A typical day starts with breakfast at camp, then the first 110-minute class block — for windsurfers that's the on-water session at the beach right next to the camp. Instructors split groups by experience, so first-timers work on land simulation and water balance while returning windsurfers head straight out to refine jibes, tacking and board control. All boards, rigs, safety vests and wet suits (on request for cold days) are supplied. After lunch there's the second class block, where you'd do whatever you paired with windsurfing that week — English, tennis, sports, yoga, dance, robotics and around two dozen other choices. Evenings and late afternoons are given over to the camp's organised programmes, which change week to week.
What sets this apart from a standard windsurf school is the whole-camp setup around it. You're not just booking lessons — you're living at a lakeside camp with hundreds of other kids from nearly 30 countries, doing the Wibit inflatable water park, bouldering at Bobo Fun Park, colour runs, beach parties, neon night games, a Mexican-themed day, dodgeball championships and a floating lantern festival on Lake Balaton. Free-time activities rotate each week, so two-week campers don't repeat the same schedule.
The windsurf instruction itself is run by Áron Gádorfalvi's team, who have been teaching at this location for over a decade. Beginners follow a clear progression: day one is on-land simulation plus in-water balance drills, day two most students are standing up, and the rest of the week is spent on movement and rotation. Experienced riders get personalised coaching to sharpen technique. Safety is taken seriously — a life vest is mandatory for all in-water training and campers must be able to swim.
You can do a one-week session or a two-week session; the two-week option gives close to 20 hours of windsurfing across the fortnight. The other daily 110-minute block lets you combine windsurfing with a second class — English with a native-speaker option, English drama, podcasting, Hungarian as a foreign language, cooking, sweet baking, football/volleyball/basketball, American sports, tennis and racketlon, outdoor cross-training, yoga, archery, golf, horseback riding, water polo and water sports, sailing, zoo studies, crochet, fashion upcycling, art, dance, DJ, robotics with LEGO Spike, 3D printing and more.
Balatongyörök sits on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, Central Europe's largest lake, with the beach a short walk from camp. The camp is full board with special dietary meals available, runs 1 to 5 weeks depending on which session you pick, and groups range from 5 to 20 kids per activity. Everything is delivered in Hungarian and English, which is why it draws such a mixed international crowd each summer.
