Home › Retreats › Women's Wellness Escape in Bacalar: Yoga, Breathwork & Sisterhood
Mexico · 5 days · From USD 582
The retreat is rooted in the quiet town of Bacalar, which locals call the Maldives of Mexico because of its stunning freshwater lagoon with layers of blue. It's a more authentic and laid-back alternative to places like Tulum or Cancun. The retreat itself takes place in a simple, private abode between two active Mexican households, with kids and dogs nearby, so you see real life around you, which guests find refreshing and grounding.
Nicole, the facilitator, describes herself as someone who 'holds space'. She is trained in yoga, breathwork, and cold water immersion, but what stands out to her guests is her honesty and presence. Having navigated her own healing journey through C-PTSD and OCD, she brings a down-to-earth empathy to her support. Nicole is hands-on with guidance for every session, from the gentle morning flow to the more challenging ice bath, where she uses expert coaching and breathing techniques to help you through it.
The schedule pairs yoga with a range of wellness practices designed to regulate your nervous system. Expect daily vinyasa, yin and restorative classes, guided breathwork, sound healing, and the signature cold-water therapy. None of it is forced; one guest remembers that everything felt optional, and she loved that she could show up when she wanted and rest when she needed to. The retreat also includes excursions like sailing the Lagoon of Seven Colors, visiting nearby cenotes (sinkholes with crystal-clear water), and discovering local gems that aren't in the guidebooks.
You'll be staying in either a shared room or your own private space (there are two options, one with a terrace). The house is rustic but comfortable, with air conditioning in the rooms and a garden courtyard that comes alive with fireflies at night. Meals are served around communal tables, and there are cozy corners for journaling or chatting. While it isn't a five-star hotel, guests feel it offers great value for the money, especially considering the depth of the experience and the care taken with everything from the food to the details of the day.
