Women's Surf Coaching Retreat in Chicama, Peru: 7 Days of Longboard Waves, Yoga, and Beachfront Comfort

Peru · 7 days · From EUR 3200

Chicama is a small town on the north coast of Peru, about an hour from Trujillo, and it's famous for one thing: a left-hand point break that, on its day, is the longest rideable wave in the world. This retreat puts you right in front of it. The resort sits at the bottom of the bay, looking out at the waves you'll be surfing all week.

The surfing is the main event. Every day you'll paddle out with the coaching team for in-water instruction — they'll guide you into waves, give you feedback as you go, and help you work on whatever you're trying to improve. After each session there's one-on-one video coaching, where you watch the footage and talk through what to adjust. There are also theory sessions in a classroom, covering things like wave selection, positioning, and technique, with the content adapted to the group. Because the wave is so long, the team runs a tow-back service so you don't have to paddle the whole way back after a good ride.

The retreat is for women with prior surf experience. You need to be a strong paddler and confident catching your own waves — advanced beginners up to advanced surfers are welcome. The wave has sections for everyone: fast, hollow parts for advanced surfers, and slower, rolling sections for intermediates. All board lengths work here.

A typical day starts early with a cold breakfast before the first surf session. Then hot brunch, rest, maybe yoga, and another surf session in the afternoon, followed by video review. Lunch and dinner are served at the resort restaurant, and there's dessert. Evenings are for the jacuzzi, sauna, or just hanging out. One day includes excursions: a bike ride into town, a visit to Huanchaco to see a traditional surfboard project, a trip to the Dama de Cal historical site, and a community project visit.

What makes this different from other surf camps is the combination of the wave itself and the coaching structure. You're not just surfing all day and hoping to improve — you get daily video analysis and one-on-one feedback, plus a coach in the water with you. And because the wave is so long, you get more time riding and less time paddling. The group size is limited to 12, so it stays personal.
