The days follow a simple pattern. You do a long yoga practice in the morning, then eat a late plant-based brunch. The middle of the day is free time or a workshop, and then there's another long practice in the evening before dinner. Brunch and dinner are the two main meals, and hot teas and drinking water are out all day.
What makes this weekend different is the two teachers working as a pair. Sophie Free's vinyasa is fluid, creative and playful. She uses the breath to drive the practice, so her classes get warm. Ellie Denman teaches qigong, vinyasa flow and restorative yoga in a gentler, grounded way that anyone can follow. You can go to everything or pick the sessions that suit your energy that day. Both teachers offer variations and are happy to take questions as you go.
There are three practice spaces. Two are indoors and one is outside in the woods. All of them have mats, blocks, straps and blankets, plus futons for yoga nidra. The programme covers qigong, vinyasa, pranayama, yoga nidra, restorative yoga and meditation, with a sound journey on one of the evenings.
The venue is a big part of the trip. Part of the land is rare temperate rainforest, which is good for slow forest walks. The River Bedalder runs through the site for wild bathing, and the woodland sauna sits close by. A guided walk takes you to the beaver enclosure. Bodmin Moor lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a recognised Dark Sky Landscape, so the fire pit after dark is a highlight.
The communal barn has a big kitchen, the long monkey-puzzle-wood dining table, a sitting room, a nature library and a screening room with a projector. There is also Daphne's, the in-house bar, which serves Pentire drinks and cocktails. Bar drinks cost extra. There is high-speed WiFi if you need it, but most people put their phones away by the second day.
