India · 8 days · From USD 347
The retreat runs from the early hours to just after lunch, but there's more to it than the timetable. Mornings begin with a two-hour Yin Yoga practice at 6:00 AM, moving through long-held postures that target the connective tissues. That's followed by pranayama, then a break for a substantial breakfast. The late morning is spent in philosophy and meditation classes, and then you move into Yin Anatomy and Teaching Methodology. By early afternoon, the formal part of the day is over, leaving you free to rest, study, or wander the tree-lined streets of Gokulam.
The curriculum is structured to give you a full toolkit. Anatomy and physiology classes cover the skeletal, muscular, and fascial systems, and you'll also explore the nervous and respiratory systems. The philosophy sessions draw on Taoism, the concept of Yin-Yang energy, and the role of mindfulness in the practice. Asana and sequencing classes go pose by pose, covering modifications and contraindications, and the teaching methodology sessions focus on cueing, adjustments, and how to structure a balanced class. By the end, you'll have a clear idea of how to teach your own Yin Yoga classes.
What makes this particular training stand out is the mix of traditions. Dr. Srinatha's background is in the dynamic styles of Hatha, Ashtanga, and Iyengar, and he brings that precision and alignment knowledge into the Yin context. The integration of Indian and Chinese wisdom gives the philosophy component a depth you might not find in a purely western-style teacher training. Students consistently mention the quality of the teaching – the 7:30 AM advanced Hatha/Iyengar class is singled out in reviews as a highlight, with the teacher and his assistants making sure everyone gets personal help.
The school is located in Gokulam, a neighborhood that's become a hub for yoga in Mysore. It's quiet enough to focus on your practice, but there are cafes, juice bars, and shops within walking distance. Mysore itself is the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga, so you're surrounded by yoga history. The safety and security of the accommodation is noted on the listing, and the staff are on hand to help with anything you need.
