Yoga and Cultural Sightseeing Week in the Himalayas

Yoga and Cultural Sightseeing Week in the Himalayas

Rishikesh · 7 days · From USD 242

Rishikesh sits where the Ganges leaves the Himalayan foothills and enters the plains, and it's been a destination for yoga students for generations. This retreat is based at Saptkaya Yoga School, a small centre on Secret Waterfall Road in Upper Tapovan, surrounded by forest and a short walk from natural waterfalls.

The daily schedule centres on practice: pranayama (breathing exercises), asana (postures), and meditation, led by a rotating team of certified instructors. Classes are designed to accommodate beginners through advanced practitioners, with adjustments and modifications offered as needed. You won't be pushed into anything your body isn't ready for, but you'll have the support to go deeper if you want to.

Beyond the mat, the retreat includes one full sightseeing day through Rishikesh's temples and tourist sites, ending with the Ganga Aarti — a nightly fire ceremony on the riverbank that draws hundreds of people. There's also a guided hike to the Secret Waterfall, nature walks through the surrounding hills, and a sound healing session using Tibetan bowls.

Meals are Ayurvedic and vegetarian, cooked in-house with seasonal vegetables. The kitchen accommodates egg-free, keto-friendly, sugar-conscious, and organic preferences. Expect simple, nourishing food rather than elaborate spreads — dal, rice, sabzi, chapati, fresh fruit.

The school's name, Saptkaya, means 'seven bodies' in Sanskrit, referring to the idea that we're more than just physical. The teaching here touches on philosophy and spirituality alongside the physical practice, but without pressure — you can engage as much or as little as you like.

Rooms are air-conditioned with attached bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and terraces. You can book private (single occupancy) or shared (double occupancy). The property has a restaurant, garden, library, laundry, and a dedicated yoga shala. It's wheelchair accessible and has a lift.
