Koh Samui · 7 days · From USD 900
The retreat is run by Yoga Nisarga, a Yoga Alliance registered teacher training center that operates in Koh Samui, Goa and Bali. It was founded in 2007 by Swami Chaitanya Hari, an E-RYT 500 teacher who started practicing yoga at age six and has studied Hatha, Sivananda and Ashtanga yoga in India and Nepal. His co-teacher Jessica Uprety is also a yoga teacher and a clinical psychologist. The team's depth of experience is clear in the teaching, which manages to be both traditional and accessible to beginners.
Days begin at 8:30am with a yoga practice, followed by breakfast. The mid-morning and afternoon are largely free, with meditation offered in the late morning and an optional Hatha yoga session in the late afternoon. Evenings include a group sunset gathering, dinner, and then meditation or kirtan. This structure gives plenty of space for rest, reflection and exploring the island at your own pace. You are not on a tight schedule, and the retreat is flexible enough to suit people who want a lot of practice as well as those who are new to yoga.
The Anahata Wellness Resort is a three-star property with a range of accommodation, from standard rooms upstairs in the main hotel building to private bungalows a short walk from the beach. All rooms have air conditioning and wifi. The resort has a pool, a spa offering traditional Thai massage, a sauna, a restaurant by the sea, and a yoga shala. It is located about 29km from Koh Samui International Airport and a 15-minute drive from Nathon Pier. Nearby you can go cycling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or swimming.
What makes this retreat different from a generic yoga holiday is the teaching. Swami Chaitanya Hari is a well-known figure in the yoga world, and his approach — rooted in the Ashtanga Primary Series and described as moving meditation — is a far cry from a purely physical workout. The small group size, typically 6 to 15 people, means you get individual guidance. And the setting, on the quiet side of Koh Samui, is genuinely peaceful, a world away from the busier tourist areas of the island. The reviews from past guests mention the beautiful location, the friendly staff, and the excellent food, with several people returning over many years.
