Rishikesh · 7 days · From USD 466
The retreat runs for seven days and six nights in Rishikesh, which calls itself the Yoga Capital of the World. Every morning starts with a pranayama class, then a longer yoga session that moves between Ashtanga, Hatha, and vinyasa depending on the day and your energy. After breakfast, you have a one-on-one consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor, who checks your pulse and adjusts your treatment plan and diet based on what your body is showing that day.
Panchakarma is the centerpiece. The Sanskrit word means 'five actions,' and the school works through the classic treatments—Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana—but always tailored to the individual. Most days include one or two Panchakarma sessions, which can be anything from a full-body oil treatment to a more specific therapy, depending on your consultation. The doctors are trained clinicians, not just massage therapists. If you're wary of a rigorous cleanse, you can tell them, and they'll scale it back to gentler treatments like Shirodhara or Abhyanga.
Yoga continues in the afternoon, before meditation, Yog Nidra, or sound healing sessions. There's also an Ayurvedic cooking class on day three, a sunrise trip to Kunjapuri Temple on day five, and a first-evening visit to Ram Jhula and the Ganga Aarti on the riverbank. Meals are all vegetarian, served in brass and copper vessels, and adapted to your dosha and treatment plan. The schedule is flexible, and the teachers and doctors will adjust it around how you're actually feeling as the week goes on. Its combination of daily one-to-one medical consultations, personal therapy sessions, and a full yoga schedule is more thorough than what most Ayurveda retreats offer.
