Home › Retreats › Yoga & Beach Escape in South Goa: Daily Classes at a Riverside Eco-Resort in Patnem
India · 7 days · From EUR 700
A typical day starts with a morning practice, usually in the Blue Shala on the heritage side or the Coconut Shala on the Yoga Space side depending on where you're staying. The morning class leans toward Ashtanga Vinyasa or a dynamic Vinyasa flow, with attention paid to alignment rather than just moving through shapes. Breakfast follows at around 9am — mango, papaya and banana, eggs, pao (Goan bread rolls), coffee and chai, served on a terrace looking out over the river. You eat slowly because there's nothing after it on the schedule until late afternoon.
The middle of the day is free. Walk the eight minutes to Patnem Beach, where the sand is wide and the crowd is mostly long-stay visitors and locals rather than package tourists. Palolem is a 25-minute walk or a short scooter ride north if you want more restaurants and a bit more life. Rent a scooter and you can reach quiet coves, the Cabo de Rama fort, spice farms and waterfalls in an hour or two. Or stay put — the resort grounds have enough shade, hammocks and riverbank to fill an afternoon doing nothing at all.
The second class is usually in the late afternoon or early evening, often a gentler session or one that folds in pranayama, meditation and some yoga philosophy alongside the physical practice. Guests repeatedly mention that the teachers weave meditation and philosophical elements into classes rather than treating them as separate add-ons, so you get more than just a stretch. On some days there's a restorative or yin-style session instead.
What separates this from a standard beach yoga week is that it's also a working yoga school. It runs 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa and 300-hour Vinyasa/Ashtanga teacher trainings, so the teachers on your holiday are the same people delivering those courses — experienced, teaching daily, and used to working with mixed abilities. The resort is family-run by Julia and George, who built the place and are often around the grounds. The setup is split across two areas: the heritage side is green and lush with the Blue Shala and the original Keralan cottages; the Yoga Space side has the Coconut Shala, an open-air pavilion surrounded by gardens with palms rising above it.
Practically, this is South Goa, not the built-up north. Patnem has no all-night party strip competing with your 7am practice. There are local restaurants, small shops and beach bars, but the pace is slow. Guests come from all over, many arriving solo, and plenty return season after season. The season runs October to May.
