Yoga, Culture & Sacred Valley Immersion in Peru: Andes Adventure Retreat

Peru · 8 days · From EUR 3400

The retreat is built around the Sacred Valley, roughly an hour from Cusco and on the route to Machu Picchu. Mornings usually start with yoga before breakfast, then the group heads out for the day: Inca sites such as Ollantaytambo, Pisac or Moray, a weaving cooperative or market in a Quechua village, a salt-pan visit at Maras, or a hike on part of the Inca Trail network. Afternoons and evenings wind down with a second, gentler yoga session and dinner back at the property.

The Machu Picchu day is the centrepiece. The group travels by train through the Urubamba gorge, enters the citadel with a guide, and has time on site before returning. Other days might include a cooking demonstration, a cacao or coffee farm visit, or a walk to a viewpoint over the valley. The schedule is full but the pace is adjusted to the group — the altitude in Cusco and the valley (around 2,800–3,400 m) is taken seriously, with a slow first day and plenty of water and coca tea.

What sets this apart from a generic yoga retreat is the local partnership. Valentin's Pachamama Journeys handles ground logistics and guiding; guests in the testimonials describe being treated "like family" and credit the guides with deep, personal knowledge of Inca history and Andean culture. That means you are not just doing yoga in a scenic spot — you are getting a proper introduction to the region, its ruins, its food and its people.

The yoga teachers change by departure. Yuval Samburski leads the April 2027 trip, Kim Larkin the October–November 2027 trip; recent past trips were led by Margi Young, Nicole Belica and Anne Van Valkenburg. All are experienced teachers with their own regular classes and trainings, and the style tends to be alignment-aware vinyasa or hatha suitable for mixed levels, with modifications offered.

Accommodation is at a retreat property in the Sacred Valley, with comfortable rooms, shared or private depending on what you book, and yoga space on site. Meals are largely Peruvian — quinoa, corn, potatoes, fresh trout, ceviche, seasonal fruit — with vegetarian options available. Expect a mix of meals at the property and at restaurants during excursions.

This is a trip for people who want a real itinerary, not a silent meditation week. If you want to see Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley with a group, do yoga most days, and let someone else handle the tickets and transfers, this fits.
