Home › Retreats › Yoga & Pilates Holiday in Southern Bohemia: Paddle, Hike & Explore Český Krumlov
Czech Republic · 8 days · From EUR 620
The week runs from 26 July to 2 August at Svachovka, a country estate with a spa, golf course, brewery and distillery, about 5km from Český Krumlov. Accommodation is 4-star, for seven nights. Rooms are double or single — you either share a double or pay a supplement for your own. The estate has an indoor pool you can use, and breakfast happens in the Glockner restaurant, which has a good local reputation.
Class is two hours each morning, and it's not just postures. Barbara builds in anatomy, pranayama, alignment and correct movement principles, plus partner work and some massage and bodywork. If there's a particular pose or problem you want to work on, she'll try to fit it in. Mats and blocks are provided, though you're welcome to bring your own if you're not travelling carry-on only.
The afternoons are what separates this from a standard retreat. There's a four-hour rafting trip down the Vltava to the Zlatá Koruna monastery — gentle enough that Barbara jokes only upper-body engagement is required. There's a trip to Holašovice, a UNESCO heritage village, and to České Budějovice, the regional capital and home of the original Budweiser, with an impressive town square. There's Hluboká Castle, and the Lipno dam in the Šumava region. You'll want sturdy boots, because there's a lot of walking: mountains, hills, and the dam, which is also good for a swim.
Meals are brunch, dinner and snacks. Morning snacks are nuts, muesli bars and fruit, deliberately light so you're not working out on a full stomach. Brunch carries you through the afternoon, and you take water and snacks out on trips. Dinner is at the hotel most nights, but Barbara likes to eat out a few times during the week given how many good places there are around Krumlov — on those nights you get 150 CZK towards your meal.
The group is capped at 15. Five places had already gone by January for the 2017 trip. Non-yoga partners are welcome — they can do their own thing in the mornings and join everything in the afternoon. If they like beer and golf, so much the better.
