Yoga, Sahara Trekking and Hammam Wellness Weeks in Morocco

Yoga, Sahara Trekking and Hammam Wellness Weeks in Morocco

Marrakech · 6 days

A typical day starts early, because that is when the light and the temperature are best. Yoga and guided meditation come first, usually twice a day across the programme and outdoors whenever the weather allows. Breakfast follows — fresh fruit, mint tea, bread, eggs, olives, the usual Moroccan spread. Then you are out: a hike in the High Atlas through cedar and past Berber villages, a drive across the Tizi n'Tichka pass towards Ouarzazate, or a walk into the souk with a guide.

Afternoons vary by itinerary. On the cooking-focused days you shop for spices and produce in Marrakech's souk and then make tagine and salads in a riad kitchen. On spa days you have a traditional hammam — steam room, a scrub with black soap and ghassoul clay, then an argan oil massage. Some itineraries also include Balinese-style treatments and reflexology alongside the Moroccan ones. Evenings are quiet: dinner, sometimes Berber drumming, and an early night before the next morning's practice.

The desert section is the part people remember. You travel by 4x4 or camel to a camp among the dunes, watch the sun go down over the sand, eat dinner outdoors and sleep in a tent. The 8-day Sahara itinerary uses Erg Chigaga; the wider desert tours also run to Erg Chebbi. Nubia Luxury Camp at Erg Chigaga is named as one of the camps used.

What separates this from a standard yoga week is the amount of ground covered. You are not staying in one resort for seven days. The 6-day retreat moves between Marrakech and the Ouarzazate area; the 8-day adds the High Atlas and the Sahara. That means long drives, early starts and a fair amount of walking — the hiking is the fitness component, and it is real hiking, not a stroll.

Groups are led by a named guide and a specialist yoga teacher. Reviews from past guests single out guides Ismail and drivers Yousef and Ahmed by name for their knowledge of the region and its history. Accommodation is in restored riads — traditional courtyard houses with pools and gardens — plus desert camps. The company behind the trips is UK-registered and has been running Morocco itineraries since at least 2016.
