Yoga & Wellness Escape at Assava Dive Resort, Koh Tao

Yoga & Wellness Escape at Assava Dive Resort, Koh Tao

Thailand · 7 days · From USD 35

A typical day here starts early — many guests take the 07:30 Ashtanga or Hatha Flow class before it gets too hot, then head to breakfast at The Cove. If you're diving, your boat usually goes out mid-morning and returns early afternoon. The late-afternoon and sunset slots (around 16:30 and 18:00) are when Vinyasa, Yin, and Mat Pilates run, so you can do both. Classes are 60 minutes and cost 400 THB each, or you can buy a 5-class pack for 1,750 THB or a 10-class pack for 3,000 THB. Wellness workshops are longer: Breathwork & Meditation runs 1.5 hours (1,500 THB), Reiki is a one-on-one hour (1,500 THB), and the Thai Massage course is an hour (1,000 THB). Yoga Nidra is 400 THB. All of it can be booked as a private session if you'd rather not join a group — the instructor comes to you with all the props.

What sets this apart from a standard yoga retreat is that it's not a fixed, one-size week. You're not locked into a set itinerary with a group you didn't choose. You book the classes you want, when you want, and fill the rest of the day with diving, snorkelling, or nothing at all. That makes it a good fit if you're travelling with a partner who dives but doesn't do yoga, or if you want to combine a PADI course with a daily practice. Koh Tao itself is small and laid-back — Chalok Baan Kao is the quieter side of the island, away from the bars of Sairee, with a handful of cafés and a beach that's calm enough for a swim at any time of day.

The yoga teachers are residential at Assava and teach the full range of styles listed — Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, and Mat Pilates — so you'll likely have the same few instructors across the week. They modify poses for beginners and offer deeper options for experienced practitioners. The wellness workshops are led by separate practitioners; the Thai Massage course in particular is hands-on and grounded in the local tradition. The resort also has a team of Thai massage therapists for the 500–600 THB massages (Thai, aromatic oil, aloe vera), which are worth booking after a long dive day or a hard Pilates class.

The resort sits within Assava Dive Resort, so the yoga spaces are genuinely embedded in a working dive centre — you'll hear tanks being filled and boats leaving in the morning, which gives the place a lived-in, active feel rather than a silent spa vibe. Accommodation is spread across bungalows and rooms, all a short walk from the water. The Cove Restaurant & Bar is the social hub, serving three meals a day plus drinks. If you want a retreat where you can be active all day — dive, yoga, eat, sleep, repeat — this works well. If you want silence and seclusion, it's probably not the right pick.
