Kathmandu
This 10-day programme is Nepal Ayurveda Home's structured Ayurvedic detox. It follows the classical Panchakarma sequence: first preparing the body, then cleansing it, then rebuilding it. The resident Ayurvedic doctor guides the whole process, and your meals follow the doctor's prescription throughout.
The first three days are Snehana (oleation). Abhyanga oil massage is given once or twice a day, together with head oil treatments and a daily dose of medicated oil or ghee taken by mouth. These loosen toxins and prepare the body for cleansing. Day four is Swedana (sudation): sweating therapies such as local or whole-body herbal steam, sand or herb-and-rice poultices. The main cleansing follows: Vamana (therapeutic emesis) early on day five, a day of light, easily digested meals such as manda, peya and yusha, and Virechana (therapeutic purgation) on day seven.
The last three days focus on rejuvenation: Rasayana herbal preparations, Aksi Tarpana eye treatment, pranayama and a short hike in the nearby hills. Kati, griva and janu vasti are added for guests with chronic back, shoulder or knee pain. Yoga classes run morning and evening throughout. Not every therapy suits every person, so the doctor adapts the programme to you.
The retreat is set on the edge of the Nagarjun Jungle on the quiet outskirts of Kathmandu. It is a family-run home with a yoga shala, an in-house spa and gardens, far enough from the city centre to rest properly.
