India · 15 days · From USD 578
The 100-hour Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at Yogadarshanam is a comprehensive program condensed into 15 intense days. It’s designed to give you a solid foundation in yoga teaching, covering asana alignment, pranayama, kriyas, bandhas, mudras, anatomy, philosophy, and teaching methodology. The curriculum is based on the classical eight-limbed Ashtanga path as codified by Patanjali, and you'll explore both the Ashtanga Vinyasa flow and the more static Hatha approach.
A typical day starts with yogic kriyas (cleansing practices) and leads into a dynamic asana practice. Mornings might focus on the primary series of Ashtanga, while afternoons dive into anatomy, philosophy, and practice teaching. The schedule is structured yet varied—one day you'll be dissecting the science of alignment, the next you'll learn how to sequence a class or give hands-on adjustments. There's also time for self-practice, seva (selfless service), and optional excursions to holy sites around Mysore.
What sets this training apart is its authenticity. The school, Ayush Yogadarshanam, is rooted in the philosophy that yoga must be taught without modification, with proper research, and spread from teacher to student. Yogacharya Santhosh Kumar's lineage includes training with B.K.S. Iyengar and studying the Sivananda tradition. His teaching style is practical and clear, focusing on the student's understanding and capability to teach, not just perform.
The location adds another layer. Mysore is a significant place in the yoga world, known for the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute founded by Pattabhi Jois. The city itself is calm, at altitude, and steeped in Indian culture. You'll practice at the school in Gokulam, a neighborhood famous for its yoga schools and community. While the training is demanding, the supportive environment, your fellow trainees, and the peaceful surroundings make it a powerful journey into the practice.
