100-Hour Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training in the Himalayas

100-Hour Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training in the Himalayas

India · 11 days · From USD 550

This is a residential teacher training built around the idea that yoga can be adapted for anyone, regardless of their physical condition. Alpesh Patwari, who has been practicing for over thirty years, created the curriculum to focus on the healing aspects of yoga. Over the 100 hours, you'll cover yoga anatomy and physiology, the skeletal and muscular systems, how to use props like blocks and straps, and how to 'sequence' a class so it flows safely. The days are full and structured — expect a mix of asana practice, pranayama, philosophy lectures, and teaching practice — with study time in the afternoons and evenings to absorb it all.

The setting is Dharamkot, a small village above Dharamshala that's known as a hub for yoga and meditation. The school sits within view of the Himalayas, and the cool mountain air is a relief if you're coming from India's hot plains. When you're not in class, you can wander down to McLeod Ganj, the nearby town that's home to the Dalai Lama and a large Tibetan community. The school itself is simple and functional — rooms with attached bathrooms, a garden, a kitchen, and a dedicated yoga shala with views. It's not a luxury resort; it's a place to focus on your practice and your training.

A note on the schedule: classes run Monday to Friday, with a full day off on Sunday to explore. Saturdays are half-days, with just a morning session so you can rest or head out on one of the organized excursions. The group is usually between ten and fifteen people, from all over the world, so you'll get plenty of personal attention from the teachers. If you complete this 100-hour course, you can come back for a second 100-hour module to reach your 200-hour certification, which many students choose to do.
