Rishikesh · 12 days · From USD 640
The 100-hour training at Jiva Yoga Academy is a compact but thorough introduction to teaching yoga. The curriculum covers Hatha and Ashtanga asana in depth — you'll learn the alignment of over 100 postures, from Sun Salutations to Hanumanasana — plus the teaching methodologies that help you present a class effectively. You'll also study class sequencing and get to practice-teach in a safe, friendly environment.
Beyond asana, the course dives into Ayurveda, the ancient Indian healing system. You'll cover its philosophy and history, the doshas and elements, diagnostic techniques, disease pathology, and daily habits for balance. There's also a strong pranayama component, with breathing techniques like Nadi Shodhan, Bhastrika, and Kapal Bhati. Meditation practice is built into the daily schedule, along with yoga philosophy drawn from the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, and the four Vedas.
Anatomy and physiology are taught with a focus on how the body moves from pose to pose — muscles, bones, fascia, and joints — so you can prevent injury in yourself and, later, your students. The training also includes yoga cleansing practices (kriyas) like Jalaneti and Shankha Prakshalana, which are not often taught in shorter courses.
The teaching team brings a range of expertise. Ramcharit Das has been practicing Raja and Bhakti Yoga since age nine and has 25 years of meditation experience. Vikash, with an E-RYT 200, is known for his energetic Hatha and Ashtanga classes. Ritu holds a BSc in yoga therapy and teaches pranayama and anatomy. Pritam, an E-RYT 200, adds acupressure knowledge and a therapy-based approach. Vishal, E-RYT 500, has been teaching Hatha, Iyengar, and Ashtanga for a decade. Dr. Vipul, with a doctorate in yoga science, teaches Sanskrit and philosophy with a scientific eye. Together, they create a learning environment that is both traditional and accessible.
Rishikesh itself is part of the experience. The academy is a short walk from the Ganga, and you'll be surrounded by forest and hills. The town is vegetarian and alcohol-free, which helps you stay focused on your practice. You can visit the Beatles Ashram, go white-water rafting, or trek to waterfalls on your time off. The combination of rigorous training and a spiritually charged setting makes this more than a certification — it's an immersion.
