13 Day Yin Yoga Therapy Teacher Training & Wellness Escape in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka · 13 days · From USD 1499

This is a 100-hour teacher training, so the days are packed. A typical day begins around 6am with a self-practice or a guided meditation, followed by a yang-style yoga class to balance all the yin work. After breakfast, the focus shifts to theory—learning about the meridian lines, the five Daoist elements, and how each pose affects the body's energy. Late morning is usually methodology, where you learn how to teach, how to use props, and how to sequence a class. The early afternoon is often an asana lab or partner work, where you practice hands-on adjustments. The main event is the yin immersion in the late afternoon, which runs for two hours and lets you sink deeply into the poses. Evenings wrap up with a sunset circle or a sharing circle, and then dinner.

What sets this training apart is the integration of Taoist healing wisdom. You learn about chi flow, the dan tien, and the three treasures, and how these ancient ideas translate into practical yoga sequencing. The teaching is grounded in the idea that each pose has an energetic and emotional value, and you are shown how to address specific meridians to support healing. The course also includes a substantial mindfulness component, exploring neuroplasticity and how attention shapes the nervous system. There is an extracurricular workshop on acupressure points, and the teachers are available for questions and guidance throughout.

The location is a big part of the experience. KSL Resort is an 8-acre property that feels wild and natural, with a beach on one side and a lagoon on the other. The yoga shala has an ocean view, and there are quiet corners in the garden for reflection. The resort has a spa, a gym, and a restaurant, but the main draw is the raw beauty of the coast. Kalpitiya is known for kitesurfing, and there are opportunities for whale watching, safaris in Wilpattu National Park, and cycling through the villages. The training balances intensive study with real downtime, so you can actually absorb what you are learning.

The lead teacher is Alexandra Denkinger, a German-born acupuncturist and yoga teacher who has lived in India for nearly two decades. She trained in traditional medicine and integrates this knowledge into her yoga teaching. She is joined by Jenny, who handles the philosophy and bodywork modules. Jenny has been teaching since 2014 and brings a background in Reiki and embodied practices. Together, they create a supportive environment where students are encouraged to find their own teaching voice. The training is accredited by Yoga Alliance, so the 100 hours count toward a 300-hour certification, and the diploma is a building block for a 700-hour Yin Yoga Therapy™ program.
