14-Day 100-Hour Yoga Teacher Training on the Ganges in Rishikesh

Rishikesh · 14 days · From USD 301

The training runs across 14 days and includes 100 hours of instruction, enough to meet the Yoga Alliance requirement for their 100-hour certificate. The syllabus is divided into the core areas of a teacher training: teaching techniques (asanas, pranayama, kriyas, bandhas, mudras, meditation, and chanting), anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy, teaching methodology, and practicum where you actually teach your fellow students.

The teaching sits heavily in the traditional Indian Gurukul style, which means close mentor relationships, an emphasis on the less-physical limbs of yoga — pranayama (breathing), kriyas (cleansing), mudras (energy gestures), and Yoga Nidra — and plenty of practise in front of a teacher who will correct your alignment. Training is delivered daily in the school's yoga hall, with theory interspersed so you're never sitting for hours on end.

A big part of this course is learning to read other bodies. You'll observe your mentors coaching, help out in classes, learn adjustments and modifications for different students, and give feedback that your teachers will assess you on. By the end you should be able to plan, sequence, and lead your own classes, and understand the business side of being a yoga teacher.

The lead teachers include Ganesh Negi, who has a master's degree in Yoga Sciences and teaches Hatha and Ashtanga in an uncomplicated, traditional style, and Ajay Uniyal, who studied yoga in a Gurukul from age 11 and has since added a 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification. The school is located right on the Ganges, with the Himalaya around you, which makes for a setting that past guests describe as peaceful and dedicated to the practice.
