200-Hour Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in Kerala, India

Kerala · 28 days · From USD 1320

This training is taught by Devvrat, a Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500 certified teacher with a background in electrical engineering and current studies as a yoga therapist at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University. He's a regular practitioner at the KPJAYI Ashtanga institute in Mysore, and his classes reflect that traditional training — dynamic but precise. Assisting him is Abhishek, an E-RYT-200 certified teacher from Rishikesh with a Master's in Yogic Science from Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya University, who adds his own depth in Iyengar-style alignment.

The style here is genuinely different from a typical backpacker yoga TTC. Instead of just running you through a set sequence and calling it a course, the morning class walks you through all 70 asanas of the Ashtanga Primary Series with detailed attention to alignment and how to use props — so you learn how to actually support your future students, not just do the poses yourself. Afternoons flip to Mysore style, where you practice the sequence at your own breath-led pace while teachers adjust you individually, giving you firsthand experience of the self-practice method that makes Ashtanga distinctive.

The schedule is demanding but structured. Teaching practice starts early — you'll be adjusting your classmates from the first week under teacher supervision — and Sundays include a study of yogic texts from 10:15 to 11:15. There are also a few excursions: a boat tour and meditation on Golden Island, plus an Ayurvedic consultation included in the course. With a group capped at 15, the training feels more like joining a community than attending a course — students eat together, cook together on Fridays, and often stay in touch long after graduation through the school's closed alumni group.
