Home › Retreats › 200-Hour Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in the Himalayan Foothills of Nepal
Nepal · 24 days · From USD 840
This is a traditional, ashram-style teacher training rather than a resort retreat. The syllabus is dense: 100 yoga postures across the four main positions, pranayama (heating, cooling and balancing), mudras and bandhas, meditation, yogic cleansing (shatkarma), and yoga philosophy drawn from Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. You'll also learn applied anatomy so you can align students safely, and from the second week you'll start practice teaching—first one-to-one, then in small groups, and finally in open classes. The morning practice includes mantra chanting and meditation; the evening practice is Ashtanga, so you get exposure to two major styles over the three and a half weeks. The training is led by Vijay, who holds a Master's in Yoga Science from SVYASA University in Bangalore and spent a decade living in ashrams, and Sajani, a Reiki Master who has taught in Nepal and South Korea. Midway through the course, there's a full-day hike to Shivapuri Peak (2,732 m), with panoramic views of the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley. The location itself matters: Budhanilkantha is a spiritual town 25 minutes from the chaos of Kathmandu, at 1,400 metres altitude, with the national park on the doorstep. Guests consistently mention the sense of family—dinner table conversations, the host's little girl joining the evening dance circle, and the ease of settling into a simple daily routine. Many people come alone, and many stay on after treks in the mountains. It's a demanding course academically, but the environment and the warmth of the hosts make it feel like a retreat as much as a certification.
