Kenya · 15 days · From USD 2350
The Shri Gaia Yoga Institute's 200-hour Hatha Vinyasa training stands out for its comprehensive and traditional curriculum. It is directed by Tanya Popovich, an E-RYT 500 and Yoga Acharya, and her teaching draws on a wide range of styles including Jivamukti, Anusara, Sivananda, and Trika Yoga, alongside deep study of the Yoga Sutras and Bhagavad Gita. The curriculum is built around your own practice and your ability to share it. Mornings start with two hours of Vinyasa, pranayama, and meditation. After breakfast, you'll move into lectures on philosophy and anatomy, and the afternoon teaching methodology sessions cover everything from alignment and sequencing to hands-on assists and how to handle challenging situations.
What makes this training particularly strong is its integration of classical yoga with modern teaching methods. While you'll study ancient texts like the Yoga Sutras and Tantric philosophy, you'll also learn about the biomechanics of the body, therapeutic alignment, and intelligent sequencing. This ancient-modern blend is practiced on the mat every day, and it offers a thorough foundation that is rare in shorter trainings. There is also a strong emphasis on community, with evening satsangs, kirtan, and movie nights, and plenty of free time to study, relax on the beach, or explore the historic town of Shela. The setting on Lamu Island—with its pristine beaches, Swahili culture, and slow pace of life—creates an ideal atmosphere for such focused study.
The training is part of the larger Shri Gaia Institute ecosystem, which is an education provider specializing in body-and-mind practices, including yoga teacher training and leadership programs. The institute's logo, a mandala of interconnected hearts, reflects its focus on conscious community and collective evolution. This is a serious, full-time training that requires dedication, but the structure allows you to gradually build on your knowledge, with the energy level of the group always considered. You will leave not only with a certification that is registered with Yoga Alliance but also with a deeper understanding of yourself and the confidence to lead others in their practice.
The course fee includes your accommodation, airport pickup, the full curriculum, and meals are not included, but breakfast is served at the property. The in-house kitchen prepares fresh lunches and dinners daily, which you can purchase, or you can explore the many cafes and restaurants in Shela just a short walk away. This gives you the flexibility to choose your own food, and the chefs are happy to adapt to various dietary needs.
