Kerala · 26 days · From USD 844
The program blends three yoga streams — classical Hatha, Vinyasa Kriya Flow, and Yin — into a single 200-hour curriculum developed over the last decade by lead teacher Shiva. Each day follows the same rhythm: an active flow practice in the morning, theory and methodology classes through the day, and a restorative Hatha session in the evening. Sundays are rest days, and there are excursions to waterfalls and temples around Kerala.
Teaching methodology gets serious attention. You're taught sequencing, alignment, hands-on adjustments, verbal cueing, and class planning, and you practice on your peers from early in the course. By the final week, you'll be leading full classes. Anatomy covers the musculoskeletal system alongside energy anatomy — chakras, nadis, koshas, vayus, and the gunas — with a strong focus on safe alignment and adapting poses for different bodies.
Philosophy runs alongside the physical work. Classes draw on the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and the eight limbs, and an Ayurvedic doctor gives sessions on doshas, diet, and lifestyle. Pranayama is taught daily, led by Kavitah, who students consistently single out — her hour-long breathwork sessions are a highlight of the mornings for many. Kriya practices, mantra, and a weekly fire ceremony (yajna) round out the traditional side.
The location is part of the draw. Varkala is a quieter stretch of the Kerala coast, known for its cliff-top beach and mineral springs, and it's a hub for Ayurvedic massage and treatment. The training happens year-round, starting on the 2nd of each month, so you can time it around your own schedule. The school has been running teacher trainings here for eight years, and its 4.9-star rating from 35+ reviews reflects why people keep recommending it to friends.
