Home › Retreats › 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Peru's Sacred Valley
Peru · 15 days · From USD 1896
The training follows Yoga Alliance's 200-hour curriculum but puts unusual emphasis on getting you comfortable actually teaching. By the end, you'll have designed and led multiple classes with real-time feedback, not just studied theory. The goal is to graduate feeling ready to walk into a studio and teach, not to figure it out later.
The 200 hours break down into five areas: 75 hours of technique and practice (asana breakdown, alignment, pranayama including Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, and Kapalabhati, plus subtle body work on koshas, chakras, and nadis); 50 hours of teaching methodology (sequencing, cueing, voice, and multiple practicums); 30 hours of anatomy and physiology (skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems, plus injury prevention); 30 hours of philosophy, history, and ethics (Yoga Sutras, Sanskrit terminology, teaching responsibilities); and 15 hours of empowerment coaching (somatic embodiment, nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, leadership).
Kristen, the lead instructor, is an ERYT-500 with a background in psychology and neuroscience alongside training in somatics, breathwork, energy healing, and yoga. She's been a nomad for fourteen years and is currently based in the Sacred Valley. Her approach mixes professional rigour with personal inquiry — she's interested in helping each student find their own teaching voice rather than copying hers.
The location matters here. Hacienda Paucartika sits beneath the Incan ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, about an hour from Cusco airport. The property is 300 years old, set in gardens with mountain views. October is shoulder season — sunny days, pleasant temperatures, lush landscape, fewer tourists. The altitude and isolation encourage the kind of focus that's harder to maintain at home.
The cultural elements are real, not tacked on. The despacho ceremony is led by local Andean practitioners. The temazcal is a traditional steam ritual. The training asks you to approach Peru with respect — learning some Spanish or Quechua, supporting local artisans, asking before photographing people, and practising the Andean principle of Ayni (sacred reciprocity).
Group size caps at 18, and past participants describe the experience as deeply connecting. The reviews mention it being challenging but worthwhile — the kind of thing that's uncomfortable in the moment but leaves you feeling more capable afterwards.
