Canary Islands · 15 days · From USD 1490
The 200-hour training at Shambhala Yoga School breaks down into four blocks. Techniques & Practice takes up the biggest slice—two yoga sessions a day spanning Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, Restorative, Partner Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, plus pranayama, meditation, and mantra chanting. Yoga Anatomy & Physiology covers joints, muscles, and how the body systems link to yoga, including how to safely modify poses. Yoga Humanities walks through the history of yoga, the Yoga Sutras, chakras, koshas, and mudras. Professional Essentials is where you learn to plan and sequence classes, promote yourself as a teacher, and practise hands-on adjustments, with real teaching practice in front of your peers.
The timetable is structured but not rigid. Mornings start around 07:00 with meditation, moving into a Hatha or Ashtanga class, and breakfast follows at 09:00. The middle of the day is given over to asana lab and theory, with a Vinyasa or Yin class in the late afternoon before dinner. Thursday afternoons are set aside for self-study, and from Saturday afternoon through Sunday you're free to rest, hike, surf, or just lie by the pool. There are no tests or grades—daily progress checks are framed around encouragement—and once you book, they send you initial learning material to explore at your own pace before you arrive.
The school itself is a converted property in Los Realejos, set among gardens with bananas growing on the grounds. Rooms are shared between one or two other students, each with an en suite toilet and shower, and there's a pool, a sauna, and a dedicated yoga shala where classes take place. The nearest beaches are about ten minutes away by car, with one offering year-round surf lessons for anyone who wants to try something different on their days off.
