Tanzania · 21 days · From USD 4739
The training follows a classic 200-hour syllabus, but the delivery is shaped by Vivienne Zeng's emphasis on what she calls tapas — inner discipline and consistent practice over time. Classes cover more than 100 asana poses with modifications for different levels, plus detailed anatomy (skeletal, muscular, joint systems), pranayama techniques (Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana), and philosophy drawn from the Eight Limbs, tantra, and karma teachings.
Teaching methodology gets serious attention: you'll practise cueing, voice projection, classroom management, and hands-on adjustments in small-group settings where everyone gets feedback. Vivienne has been running YTTCs for years through The Tapas Yoga School, and she's known for pushing students to develop self-discipline and confidence, not just to memorise sequences.
Lola Malaika brings a different energy to the programme. She's a sound healer and kora player with a background in Buddhist dharma, and she runs cacao ceremonies, restorative sound healing sessions, meditative beach walks, and voice activation workshops. These sit alongside the main curriculum as evening or rest-day offerings.
The group size is capped between 5 and 20 participants, so the training stays intimate. You'll get plenty of one-on-one time with both instructors, and the community aspect — evening kirtans, movie nights, group circles — is built into the schedule. By the end of the three weeks, you'll have a 200-hour certificate, a course manual, professional photos from the training, and a network of people you've practised alongside.
