Home › Retreats › 21-Night Transformative Yoga Immersion in Mazunte, Mexico
Mexico · 22 days · From USD 1105
The retreat is built around a daily schedule that is consistent and intentionally full. Each day, you'll spend around four hours in Hatha Yoga and one hour in meditation (which is optional). The yoga here is unusual: it’s taught as a contemplative practice, where you hold postures for longer periods (slowly and gently) and pay attention to the body's energy flow and the thoughts that come up. This method is rooted in Advaita and the teachings of Tantra Yoga and Kashmir Shaivism, with the 'Heart' as a central theme. While you will definitely build strength and flexibility over three weeks, the main goal is inward exploration and self-inquiry.
Alongside the physical practice, there's a two-hour lecture each day (at 6:00 pm) that covers yogic philosophy and lifestyle. The content is structured – you'll learn about more than 30 yoga techniques, including asanas, pranayama, and kriyas. You get into deeper territory too: Ramana Maharshi's Self-Inquiry method ('Who am I?'), subtle anatomy (chakras and energy channels), and the branches of yoga like Yoga Nidra, Bhakti Yoga, and Karma Yoga. There are also mini-lectures on specific meditation practices. The teachers are clearly dedicated—one recent participant noted how 'obviously knowledgeable and dedicated' they were.
Mazunte itself is a key part of the experience. It's a laid-back, small beach town on the Oaxacan coast, a short walk from the well-known Zipolite beach. The Hridaya center is nestled on a hilltop with ocean views, providing a quiet, natural setting. There's a library, a garden, and a yoga shala. The vibe is communal – you'll be living closely with people who are all on a similar path, which pushes you to learn as much from each other as from the teachers. Meals are vegan and sattvic (Ayurvedic principles), with breakfast and dinner served daily, giving you energy for the long days of practice.
The program's length is a big draw. Over three weeks the teachings build gradually. The first guest review mentions getting into a regular practice only after the full three weeks, and it's that kind of goal the course supports. You leave with not just knowledge, but with an embodied sense of the practice, and often with new friends. It's a challenging and structured learning environment, so go ready to commit fully to the schedule and the silence of inner work.
