Home › Retreats › 22-Day Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in the Mountains of Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang Mai · 22 days · From USD 1802
This isn't a cushy retreat — it's a real teacher training, held in a beautiful but simple mountain setting. The course is run by a small team from Rishikesh, India, who grew up in traditional ashrams and are here to share the unbroken lineage of Himalayan yoga. Days start at dawn and run until evening, packed with asana practice, pranayama, philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, and hands-on practice teaching. The structure is rigorous, requiring 90% attendance, and it's a course where most of the resort has been booked just for your group, so the focus stays on the training.
The curriculum is laid out in detail and leaves nothing out. You'll learn the classical Hatha postures step-by-step, practice the Ashtanga Primary Series, and go deep into the science of breath with various pranayama techniques and bandhas. There are full modules on yoga anatomy and physiology, the philosophy of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and the Upanishads, and practical Ayurveda. You'll also learn the art of adjustment, sequencing, and how to teach a class, with plenty of practice teaching and feedback.
The teachers aren't just instructors; they are dedicated practitioners. Lead teacher Acharya Chandramani has spent his life in the yogic tradition, holding a Ph.D. in Sanskrit and over 25 years of teaching experience along with 500 E-RYT certification. He is joined by Siddhesh, who blends traditional Ashtanga with therapeutic and modern styles, offering a truly comprehensive approach. With this team, you're not just learning a sequence of poses; you're learning the deeper purpose of the practice.
The location, a simple Thai-style wooden bungalow resort in the hills of Mae Win, is about an hour from Chiang Mai. It's quiet, surrounded by mountain greenery, and ideal for a course like this. The food is a highlight for most students — fresh, vegetarian, and cooked on-site by dedicated staff. This training is demanding, but for those who commit, it is a deep, life-changing experience.
