24-Day Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in the Himalayas

24-Day Ashtanga & Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in the Himalayas

Nepal · 24 days · From USD 841

The 200-hour curriculum blends physical practice with the philosophy of yoga more completely than most. You're not just doing poses — you study the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, plus anatomy and the mechanics of each asana. This isn't a fast-track to a certificate; it's a full immersion designed to make you a competent, confident teacher.

Mornings start with mantra chanting, then two hours of Hatha yoga in the shala, followed by pranayama and meditation. Afternoons dive deeper — you'll break down each of the 100 postures, learn alignment, adjustments, and how to cue clearly. Practice teaching begins after the first week, starting one-on-one and building to leading full classes by the end. Evenings are dedicated to Ashtanga practice, meditation, or philosophy discussions. It's intense but never overwhelming; the teaching is targeted at your level, whether you're a beginner or already practicing.

A major highlight is the weekly Shiva Puri trek, which takes you through the national park's forests and up to a 2,732-meter peak, with time for swimming, meditation, and a picnic by a creek. The location — 25 minutes from Kathmandu but still quiet and green — gives you the best of both worlds. You're near Budhanilkantha's temple and walking distance to Shivapuri National Park, so you can hike or explore on off-hours.

Vijay, the lead teacher, holds a Master's in yoga science from SVYASA University in Bangalore and has spent years as a wandering sannyasin in Nepal and India. Sajani, a Reiki master and Hatha expert, teaches pranayama and sound healing, and her meditations are a favorite among guests. Between them, they've taught for over 19 years and built a reputation for creating a safe, supportive space where people genuinely grow.

The experience comes down to the personal touch. With a group of just up to 11, you'll form close bonds with your classmates and your hosts. Many guests extend their stay or come back after trekking in the Annapurnas — that's how comfortable it feels. If you're ready to commit three and a half weeks to deepen your practice in a genuine, traditional setting, you'll leave with more than a certificate.
