Home › Retreats › 24-Day Hatha & Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam · 24 days · From USD 2068
The 200-hour course at Shivaay Shakti Yogashala is built around a daily rhythm that mixes physical practice with theory. Most days start with a Hatha yoga session to wake up the body, followed by pranayama and shatkarma—the cleansing techniques that help prepare the mind for meditation. Afternoons dig into the mechanics of the practice: alignment, anatomy, and how the body moves in each posture. As the day winds down, you'll move into an Ashtanga session to build strength and stamina, then close with meditation and mantra.
The curriculum covers the standard YTT topics—yoga philosophy (Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita), anatomy and physiology, teaching methodology, and sequencing—but it's taught in a distinctly traditional style. The focus is on understanding yoga as a path, not just a set of poses. You'll study the principles behind the practice, learn how to adjust students safely, and get real experience leading parts of the class before you finish.
Yogi Gokul Ji, the lead teacher, brings a rare mix of depth and science. He holds a master's in Yogic Science from Uttarakhand Sanskrit University in Haridwar, and also a master's in Computer Application from MDU. That scientific background shows in how he explains anatomy and physiology—you'll understand not just what a pose looks like, but what's happening in your joints and muscles. He teachers at Swami Purnanand Degree College and has taught at several other yoga centers, so he's used to guiding students of all levels.
What makes this retreat different from a standard 200-hour course elsewhere is its location and scale. Ho Chi Minh City is not Ubud or Rishikesh—it's a sprawling, energetic metropolis. The school sits in the middle of it, a calm pocket amid the noise of scooters and street vendors. That contrast is part of the experience: you learn to find stillness in the heart of a busy city, which is a useful skill for teaching anywhere. And with only a handful of students per batch, you get constant, personal feedback—something you won't find at a 30-person training.
