Greece · 28 days · From USD 2100
The syllabus for this 200-hour training covers the practical and theoretical side of yoga therapy. You'll study how yoga and therapy connect, how a therapeutic approach differs from a general yoga class, and how to build a program around a client's medical diagnosis and constitution. Anatomy is taught within the asanas, with thirty poses studied in detail alongside pranayama. There's also a substantial philosophy component: Patanjali's yoga sutras in a modern context, the basics of Ayurveda, and the importance of doshas, gunas, marma points, chakras, and koshas. You'll learn about yoga nidra, the therapeutic use of mantras, and how to support clients through conditions like heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hormone imbalance, and sleep disorders.
What sets this training apart is the practical, career-focused approach. Lead teacher Dietmar Hellmann is a registered Dr. Bach practitioner and a diplom kinesiologist, and he weaves those holistic tools into the training so you can add them to your own toolkit. The academy also emphasizes ethics – teaching you to apply Patanjali's yamas and niyamas in your professional behaviour and to work alongside doctors to support their patients.
The training is structured so that each day includes a morning yoga class led by a senior teacher, a debriefing session to unpack what was taught, theory and philosophy blocks, and an afternoon asana practice with detailed anatomical study. Evenings wrap up with a final yoga class and another debriefing. Because the group is small, the teaching is closer and more individualized than at larger schools, and you get direct feedback from the lead teachers rather than from assistant instructors.
One practical note from past participants: the syllabus is dense and requires genuine commitment. It's a month of focused study, not a relaxing holiday retreat. The pay-off, as the academy points out, is that you leave qualified to teach yoga therapy – with the templates and understanding to assess a client and support a doctor's treatment plan – rather than just having logged 200 hours of practice.
