India · 3 days · From USD 258
This retreat is built around sound as a healing tool, and it shows in the structure of the days. Mornings start with herbal tea, then pranayama and meditation before a 90-minute yoga asana class. Afternoons are split between lunch, free time, and the day's main sound healing session—timing agreed with the teacher, so the group can work around the schedule. Evenings wind down with yoga, meditation, prayers, and dinner, with lights out by 10pm.
The sound healing component is practical and hands-on. You'll be introduced to the main instruments—Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and your own voice—and learn how to use them for relaxation and emotional release. The course touches on chakra balancing, breathwork, and simple techniques you can carry into your own daily practice. Because the group is small (usually between one and fifteen people), there's plenty of room for questions and for the teacher to tailor sessions to what the group needs.
The location does a lot of the work. The ashram is set in McLeod Ganj, the hill town home to the Dalai Lama and a hub for Tibetan Buddhism. The air is clean, the views are wide, and the sound of temple bells drifts up from the town below. The schedule leaves enough free time to walk down to the Bhagsu Waterfall, visit the Tsuglagkhang temple complex, or just sit on the terrace and watch the clouds move across the valley. It's a genuine Himalayan ashram experience, not a resort—simple rooms, good food, and a daily rhythm that's easy to settle into.
Reeta and Rashpal lead the teaching. Reeta is a singer and teacher of yoga mantras, music, and Hindi with over a decade of experience, and she's known for keeping classes fun and informal. Rashpal has been practicing yoga and meditation since 2001 and has taught in India and South Africa. Together they create a welcoming, family-like atmosphere that previous guests have described as the highlight of their trip to India.
