3-Day Sound Healing, Waterfall & Spa Retreat in Bali's Jungle

3-Day Sound Healing, Waterfall & Spa Retreat in Bali's Jungle

Indonesia · 3 days · From USD 316

The retreat runs to a simple rhythm that repeats with enough variety to feel calm rather than repetitive. Each morning begins with a 90-minute yoga session led by Putu Ayu, a Balinese teacher who blends Hatha and Vinyasa with a quiet, attentive style. After a hearty breakfast, the middle of the day is left open for self-time – the hardest-working part of the retreat for many guests is doing nothing at all by the river or in a sun-dappled corner of the garden.

Afternoons are where the retreat gets personality. You can sign up for the free cultural activities listed on the whiteboard – Balinese cooking class, rice terrace trekking, a local language class, or cleaning the river with the Trash Hero volunteers. A daily one-hour massage is included, and on one of the days there's a trip to a local waterfall, where the cold water is a shock to the system but the feeling afterwards is unbeatable. Other activities cost extra and have to be requested beforehand: a visit from a Balinese healer, a pottery class, horse riding on the beach, a trip up Mount Watukaru with its hot springs, or a private sound healing session for chakra balancing.

The sound healing session with Ayu is the centrepiece of the stay. She has been working with bowls and gongs for over ten years and has a particular gift for reading a room – the session on the second night is a slow, hour-long immersion in vibration that releases tension people didn't know they were holding. Masks also has a long-running connection to Master Ky, a practitioner of Balinese martial arts and Tai Chi who teaches at a nearby ashram one of the oldest spiritual centres on the island. Guests get access to the ashram during the retreat, a genuinely special part of the stay for those interested in traditional Balinese practice.

Founded in 2017 after the Mount Agung eruption, the retreat now employs and trains locals in bamboo construction. Every piece of furniture is handcrafted by these specialists, using a method they call Biomimicry – designs inspired by nature. It's a small, family-run place that hosts no more than ten people at a time, which keeps things intimate. Guests are welcomed into the family home openly, and the staff have a reputation for an 'nothing is an issue' approach that many reviews mention.
