Home › Retreats › 30-Day Tai Chi and Kung Fu Immersion in China's Ancient Landscapes
China · 30 days · From USD 924
This 30-day program is built around serious, daily martial arts instruction from Shen Jiangfei, who comes from a martial arts family and has been practicing for decades. He's described as a rare inheritor of both Liuhe Quan and Chen's Tai Chi, with a teaching style that's rigorous but patient, and he adapts the training to each student's level. Beginners will work on Shaolin Kung Fu fundamentals, while those with experience can focus on fighting applications and grappling. The group is capped at 60 people but typically runs much smaller, so instruction feels personal.
Training happens twice a day, most days, with the mornings dedicated to learning traditional Chinese culture — including the theory behind martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine meridians, and Taoist philosophy — and the afternoons to physical practice. The daily schedule shows classes from 10:10 to 11:30 and again from 16:10 to 18:00, with time for lunch, rest, and a short Chinese language session in between. It's a full schedule, but there's free time after dinner and the pace allows for genuine learning and recovery.
The location adds a lot to the experience. Guests stay in one of China's few Taoist culture-themed boutique resort hotels, set within the Longhu Mountain scenic area, described as a renovated old courtyard that's breathtakingly beautiful. The grounds include cliff carvings, Bagua Square, streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails, so the training is framed by nature and history. Excursions to places like Wu Mosquito Village and other local cultural sites are included, offering a look at rural Chinese life beyond the training hall.
Reviews emphasize the quality of instruction and the personal care the master shows each student. One guest noted the location has moved from the mountains to Dayang Ancient Town but praised the hotel and overall experience, calling the master a great guy who cares about his students. Another described the shifu as patient, kind, and knowledgeable, creating a strong daily schedule with a clear instructional plan. The food is described as delicious and healthy, and the atmosphere is welcoming to all ages and levels.
