300 Hour Yoga Therapy Teacher Training in Valencia, Spain

Over four weeks, this 300-hour Yoga Therapy program covers four main areas: detailed asana practice, evaluation methods, treatment methods, and philosophy and theory. Mornings start with meditation and pranayama, followed by a long asana and restorative asana session. Later sessions cover sequencing, correction techniques, and hands-on work like basic back shiatsu and chakra balancing. You'll be introduced to Chinese medicine concepts, including the meridians and diagnostic zones on the back.

The course is designed as a healing journey for you as much as a qualification. You'll study the concept of salutogenesis — promoting health rather than just treating disease — and learn to understand how physical problems, mind, emotions, and spirituality are linked. The syllabus includes detailed study of anatomy and physiology, the five koshas, the gunas, and the eight limbs of yoga. You'll also be introduced to the Bhagavad Gita and the principles of karma and reincarnation.

Gerry Rixen, the lead instructor, is the founder of SYM-Ltd and has over 30 years of experience in yoga, shiatsu, and Chinese medicine. He trained in the Iyengar method in London and holds a 4th Dan in Shorinji Kempo, the Japanese Zen martial art. He has taught across Spain, France, Greece, Italy, and the UK, and brings a rare fusion of eastern and western therapeutic traditions. He's assisted by other teachers who, according to one student, join the course as colleagues, creating a rich, collaborative learning environment.

The training takes place at the Vinalux Resort, a hotel with its own yoga shala, fitness room, and sauna, located in a quiet but central part of Vinaros. Restaurants, bars, markets, and the beach are all within a few minutes' walk. Course fees include accommodation, tuition, a course manual, and certification, but not meals — you'll have a kitchen in your room to cater for yourself, with plenty of markets and restaurants nearby.
