Home › Retreats › 4-Day Balinese Yoga and Meditation Retreat in the Tabanan Countryside
Indonesia · 4 days · From USD 233
The retreat takes place at Wara's Yoga Healing, a small property in Sesandan village that's part of the Sesandan Heritage community. The name 'Wara' comes from the Balinese word 'Waras', meaning sane or healthy, and that's the aim: to leave feeling clear-headed and rested. The setting is lush and green, with ornamental ponds, traditional Balinese landscaping, and views over the surrounding rice terraces.
Days start with a guided meditation and a yoga class that suits all levels—whether you're a complete beginner or have been practicing for years, the teachers will adapt. Instructors like Putu (known affectionately as Tedi) and Eli lead the sessions. Tedi won second place in the Asanas Performance Master Class at FORNAS VI in Palembang in 2022 and is known for a friendly, approachable teaching style. Eli practices Hatha yoga and is a favorite among returning guests.
Beyond yoga, the retreat weaves in Balinese healing and culture. You'll have the chance to join traditional ceremonies, make offerings, learn about Hindu philosophy, and take guided nature walks through the countryside. There's an optional excursion to Watukaru Temple and the hot springs on one of your days, which past guests have called a highlight. The afternoons often include sound therapy, breathing exercises, and reflective journaling.
Food is a big part of the experience. Every meal is freshly prepared using organic produce from the local area, with a menu that includes tuna, chicken, shrimp, and plenty of vegetarian options like tofu, tempeh, and vegetables. After morning yoga, there's always a fresh juice made from fruit picked in the plantation, and Balinese snacks are served at breakfast so you can taste the local spices.
This is a retreat for anyone who wants to disconnect. The village is far from the main road, so there's no traffic noise—just the rustle of leaves and the sounds of nature. Reviews consistently mention the peaceful atmosphere and the care taken by the staff. One guest wrote that they finally had time for themselves and could rest properly, while another praised the accommodation, food, and yoga trainers as amazing. The retreat runs year-round, with group sizes kept between one and twenty participants.
