Home › Retreats › 4 Day Glow & Grow Yoga Retreat at Jnane Tamsna in Marrakech, Morocco
Marrakech · 4 days · From USD 806
This is a retreat for people who want to understand yoga rather than just move through it. The teaching follows the Yoga with Perumal method, developed by Perumal Koshy and taught here by Ines Stephan, who studied with him for ten years and now leads every session. Each 90-minute class builds on the last, starting with joint preparation and stretching, moving into core work and backbends, then legs, upper body, and twists. By day four the sequences begin to combine into flowing practice with synchronized breath. Every class ends with meditation and relaxation. Beginners and advanced students practice together, and the sequences adapt to whoever is in the room.
The location is part of what makes this work. Jnane Tamsna is set in the Palmeraie, Marrakech's palm grove, on a nine-acre organic garden that the owners, Meryanne Loum-Martin and Gary Martin, have cultivated to be pesticide-free. The garden has fruit trees, gardenia, jasmine, and bougainvillea, with serpentine paths, a library, and a massage room. There are five pools scattered across the property. Rooms are airy, with en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning, and the decoration blends traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with a modern, clean aesthetic. The hotel has been written up in the Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Vogue, and Conde Nast Traveller, and it pioneered the concept of boutique hospitality in Marrakech.
The food is another highlight. The in-house chef cooks breakfast and dinner each day, drawing on Moroccan tradition with Mediterranean influence. Most produce comes straight from the garden. Meals are served either in the dining room or out in the gardens. Guests consistently mention the quality of the food in reviews, along with the service and the peacefulness of the property. The retreat runs year-round, and Marrakech's mild climate means most classes can take place outdoors on the yoga shala, with an indoor space for days when the weather turns.
Ines herself is a big part of the experience. She began pranayama practice with her father at fourteen and has studied yoga science since 1983, a path that was set when she cured a kidney condition through postures prescribed by a doctor. She traveled to India in 2003 to study with Anto Anthony in Kerala, and later deepened her practice with Perumal Koshy, with whom she created some of the first yoga retreats in Marrakech. Reviews consistently praise her depth of knowledge and her ability to explain the theory behind the practice...
