Guatemala · 5 days · From USD 1034
The retreat is built around getting you into the air. Each morning begins with aerial or Hatha yoga, then moves into a session of aerial yoga or hammock fitness that doubles as a foundation for the harder apparatus work later. Afternoons are where the silks, hoop, and trapeze workshops happen, run as 90-minute sessions, followed by Hatha yoga with a flexibility focus. For beginners, the progression is careful, with safety mats always under you and Dani guiding each step. Intermediates get to work on refining their technique and building strength across the different apparatuses.
The retreat is private, so it's just you (or you and whoever you book with) and your hosts. That means the pace is yours, and if you're coming solo, you can ask to focus a whole stay on one apparatus rather than sampling everything. The daily schedule repeats, which sounds simple but works well: it's a structure that lets your body adapt and you to see real progress by day five. This is physical work, and you'll feel it, but the mix of aerial and yoga is designed to balance effort with recovery.
What sets this apart from a general yoga retreat is the focus on aerial arts. It's not a soft week, but it never feels intimidating because you can work at your own level. Dani, the lead instructor, has been teaching since 2010 and combines a 500-hour yoga certification with aerial arts training. She's originally from Europe and now splits time between Guatemala and Spain, which gives the retreat a kind of international, easygoing feel. Jorge, her partner, handles the logistics, takes photos, and can point you to the best hikes or local spots if you want to extend your stay.
The location itself is a big part of the charm. You're on a slope surrounded by farms and private houses, with views of at least two volcanoes, and the air is noticeably cleaner than in the city. Antigua is close enough for an afternoon of exploring cobblestone streets and Baroque ruins, but the retreat keeps you up in the quieter hills, where the main sounds are birds and the wind. It's an easy place to step out of your normal routine for a few days.
