Home › Retreats › 5-Day Jungle Wellness & Culture Retreat in Bali's Hidden Rainforest
Indonesia · 5 days · From USD 830
The retreat is set in Gunung Salak village in Tabanan, about a three-hour drive north from Ngurah Rai Airport. The last stretch is a 300-meter walk through a jungle path and rice fields; scooters are on hand for heavy luggage. The property itself is a cluster of private wooden cabins on a tiered garden hillside, with an infinity pool looking out over the forest. There are no roads nearby, just the sound of the river and the occasional village dog.
Days follow a gentle structure. Each morning brings a yoga session, usually before breakfast. Afternoons are given over to whatever's on the schedule—a trip to a hidden waterfall, the Melukat purification ceremony, a Canang Sari offering workshop, or a cooking class with local women who source ingredients from nearby farmer stands. Two traditional Balinese massages are tucked into the week, and one evening is devoted to sound healing. Between activities, there's time to swim, journal, or just sit and watch the jungle.
What makes this retreat stand out is the cultural depth. The Balinese priest from the village temple, Jero Mangku Arjuna, leads the water purification and meditation sessions. The tie-dye workshop uses dyes made from leaves and flowers the guides collect that day. The cooking class teaches actual Balinese family recipes, not a tourist version. Guests leave with tin of the Wulan Busana gift, a woven keepsake, but also with a real sense of having participated in village life rather than just observed it.
The food is home-style Balinese and Indonesian, cooked by local kitchens and village cooks, with most ingredients grown or sourced nearby. Meals are eaten together, and the team will happily tailor dishes for vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian diets. Bali's weather is warm year-round, with a wet season roughly from November to March, but the jungle stays green and the retreat runs all year.
