5-Day Muay Thai and Yoga Training Camp in Phuket, Thailand

5-Day Muay Thai and Yoga Training Camp in Phuket, Thailand

Thailand · 5 days · From USD 500

Training runs twice a day, six days a week. Morning sessions start at 07:00 with a 5-8 km run, then skipping, shadow boxing, pad work with a trainer, and clinching. Afternoon sessions run from 16:00 to 18:00 and cover more pad work, bag work and sparring. Yoga classes are held between sessions, usually at 10:00, and focus on hip openers, hamstrings and shoulders — the areas that take a beating from kicking and clinching.

The gym has a full-size ring, around 20 heavy bags, a weights area and a matted area for yoga and stretching. Trainers include both Thai fighters with stadium experience and foreign coaches who have competed in Europe and Australia. Group sizes for pad work are kept small, usually one trainer to two or three people, so you get proper attention rather than being left to hit a bag on your own.

Accommodation is in air-conditioned rooms above the gym, with private and shared options. Rooms have a bed, wardrobe, desk, en-suite bathroom with hot shower, and Wi-Fi. There is a small pool and a communal area where people eat together after training. The gym is on Soi Ta-iad, the road in Chalong known for its concentration of Muay Thai gyms, cafés and supplement shops.

Chalong is on the south-east coast of Phuket, about 40 minutes from Phuket International Airport. Kata Beach and Karon Beach are 15-20 minutes away by scooter or taxi, and Chalong Pier — where boats leave for Phi Phi and Racha — is a five-minute drive. Most guests rent a scooter for the week to get around, though the gym, food and shops on Soi Ta-iad are all within walking distance.

The camp is not a fight camp in the sense of preparing you for a bout, though people who want to fight can arrange it with the gym. It is a training holiday: you work hard, eat well, sleep, and repeat. The mix of Muay Thai and yoga is what separates it from a pure fight gym — the yoga is built into the schedule rather than being an optional extra.
