The Pranayama week is breath-first. Sessions cover diaphragmatic breathing, ratio-based practices, nadi shodhana, retention work and bandhas, plus the anatomy of the respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems. Most of it happens seated, with close attention to posture, precautions and progression, and to how you cue breathwork without talking over the room. There is also teaching practice, and time on folding breath awareness into asana classes you already run.
The Yin week is about time and stillness. You work through 26 Yin postures with modifications and prop use, holding each for one to five minutes or longer, and study connective tissue, fascia and the meridian system rather than muscular effort. The course covers Yin's origins and its relationship with Daoist yoga, functional alignment, anatomy and physiology, class planning and teaching practice. You leave able to sequence a coherent 60 to 90-minute slow class.
What separates the two isn't just content, it's the teaching skill each one builds. Pranayama sharpens verbal guidance, pacing and safe progression of breathing practices. Yin sharpens observation, prop use, functional variation and holding a room's attention through long poses without filling the silence.
Both sit inside Anandam's Yoga Alliance YACEP continuing education programme, so existing RYTs can report eligible hours. Neither certificate makes you a doctor, therapist or clinical breathwork provider, and the course is explicit about that: work within the techniques and student groups you were trained for, use precautions, and refer students on when something falls outside yoga teaching.
Because the dates overlap, you can't do both in December 2026. Take one now and the other in a later confirmed intake. The school's advice for undecided students is to train in the area you feel less equipped to teach, rather than adding another certificate in a style you already know.
